Hampshire based start-up Citysteps, a leading publisher of audio walking guides, has turned to Smooth PR to support all its communications and PR activity and to provide copywriting for its website www.citysteps.co.uk
Run by former Business Link adviser Graham Denney, the new venture is set to grow rapidly over the coming year with new guides added monthly, including a special Titanic memorial walk around Southampton and London audio guides focused on the 2012 Olympics and the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee
Smooth PR has worked with Citysteps to refresh the existing website home page, simplifying and optimising copy, as well as providing copy for the individual city pages in a format that can be recreated easily as more guides are added. Smooth PR will also manage the Citysteps Facebook page and Twitter account, regional, national, international and travel trade media relations, as well as providing strategic PR and communications support.

Baby Boom for Smooth PR
Smooth PR is celebrating the arrival of three new clients this month, all of which are companies with products aimed at babies and children. The recent arrivals are Kent based Little Hog Lane, artisan oak children's tables and chairs; Southampton based Novababy Ltd selling high quality new baby gift boxes to a corporate and consumer market; and online shop Dolly and Clementine, selling vintage-inspired hand crafted items for children and the home.
Owner of Little Hog Lane, Helen Nicholl said, "As a start- up, choosing a PR agency was a big step for us, but Smooth PR has made it really easy. On hand when we need just a few a few words of guidance, and there to help drive us forward when we need it most, spotting opportunities where we wouldn't, and putting us in touch with the right people."
Smooth PR will be undertaking national media relations for each, as well as web copy and social media campaigns.

NEW BITE-SIZED TRAINING FROM SMOOTH PR
Southampton based Smooth PR now offers a series of bite-sized training courses, aimed specifically at sole traders, small businesses and charities.
Director, Lucy Calvert, commented, “These courses are specifically for anyone who has found themselves undertaking PR and marketing activity as part of their job, but who has never received any training. Whether you are a sole trader doing it all, working for a charity and ‘pitching-in’, or a small business looking for cost savings, these courses will increase confidence and effectiveness.”
Smooth PR currently offers four bite-sized courses: news release writing, case study generation and usage, handling photocalls and media events, and an introduction to social media. Each course is delivered one-to-one, comes with a handbook and can be tailored to include ‘live’ projects.
“Whoever you are communicating with the principles are the same, so a little knowledge can go a long way.” Continues Lucy.

PR CONSULTANT HELPS HAMPSHIRE BUSINESSES DO IT THEMSELVES
A new service for small and start-up businesses in Hampshire was launched today by newcomer Smooth PR. The one-to-one training course teaches business owners to ‘do it themselves’ as a cost-effective alternative to employing an agency.
Director, Lucy Calvert, commented, “Having worked with many start-ups and small business over the years, I know at times it just isn’t possible to allocate budget to the services of a consultant. By completing a short bespoke training course and receiving little bit of ongoing support, clients can be empowered and motivated to take matters into their own hands for as long as they need to.”
The course takes a day to complete and is delivered one-to-one in order to tailor it to the individual needs of the client. Clients are given a practical handbook and receive phone and email support following the course to ensure they stay on track and have the opportunity to ask questions.

Acknowledging that writing great copy is a little harder, Smooth PR also offers cost effective copywriting services for those who don’t have the skills or time to create copy for websites, adverts, newsletter or brochures.

SMOOTH VOLUNTEERS AT LOCAL MS SOCIETY BRANCH Smooth PR Director, Lucy Calvert, is to be the Multiple Sclerosis Society's Southampton & District branch publicity officer. Lucy took up the voluntary position with the branch to increase awareness of its activities within its catchment area, and to encourage more members to join. There are an estimated 600 people in the Southampton area who have the neurological disease, many of whom were diagnosed in their 20s and 30s.
"To be dealt such a blow in your prime is devastating and as yet there is no cure. Support from the branch can be life changing and I am very much looking forward to helping them reach more people in the community. We have several exciting projects underway and a packed calendar of events to promote in 2010."
In 2008 Lucy raised over £3000 for the MS Society by organising a 32 hour sponsored singing marathon which was supported by Sony Entertainment and
was covered live by BBC Radio Solent, the Southern Daily Echo and was even mentioned on BBC Radio 2.
August 2009 STUDIO 4 CHOOSES SMOOTH TO HELP MAKE SOME NOISE Producer and composer, Lou Stonehill of Studio 4 in Hampshire chose Smooth PR to write the copy for his new website.
"Lucy was recommended to me by a colleague and I was instantly impressed with her straightforward approach. By focusing my mind on what I wanted to achieve with the site, and who its audience was going to be, Lucy was able to create copy I was happy with, in no time at all, making the whole exercise painless and cost effective. We have already started looking at the next project."
